Pistons, Raptors meet in potential playoff preview
Mar 26, 2008 - 1:56 PM Detroit (50-20) at Toronto (35-35) 7:00 pm EDTTORONTO (Ticker) - The Detroit Pistons face the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday in what is shaping up as a potential preview of a first-round Eastern Conference playoff series.
The Pistons will likely finish in the No. 2 spot behind Boston. The Raptors are currently in seventh place - one-half game behind Philadelphia - and could open the postseason against Detroit.
The Pistons avoided their second three-game losing streak of the season with a 110-105 overtime victory over Phoenix on Monday and are on the verge of clinching the Central Division title.
The victory, which came without the services of Richard Hamilton because of a sore hip, enabled Detroit to reach the 50-win mark for the seventh consecutive season.
"A lot of people have been saying that we don't have any big games left because we can't move up or down in the division," Pistons' guard Chauncey Billups said.
The Raptors are trying to avoid falling below the .500 mark for the first time since November. Toronto has lost seven of its last eight games, including a 109-100 home loss to Denver on Sunday.
Detroit is 2-0 against the Raptors this season, winning by an average of 15 points. The Pistons have won 10 of the last 12 meetings between the teams.
