Knicks host Heat hoping to avoid setting record

Mar 26, 2008 - 2:32 PM Miami (13-57) at New York (19-51) 7:30 pm EDT

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New York Knicks can set a dubious home record Wednesday when they host the Miami Heat.

Already mired in a miserable season, the Knicks enter Wednesday's contest having lost seven consecutive home games. The current streak matches New York's single-season mark set in the 1963-64 campaign.

New York has lost five straight contests and 12 of 13 overall. The Knicks' record is the second-worst in the Eastern Conference, better only than the Heat's league-worst mark.

Added to the tough times is the uncertain status of current coach and team president Isiah Thomas.

Donnie Walsh, who is stepping away from his role as the Indiana Pacers' chief executive and president, is rumored to be stepping in to run New York's basketball operations. The Pacers have stated that Walsh has made no plans regarding his future.

"I don't comment on my job status, and I'm sure not going to comment on anything that Donnie chooses to do or not to do," Thomas said. "He's had a great career, he's one of the best who's ever done it."

The Knicks have won four of their last five games against the Heat, who snapped a four-game losing streak with Monday's 78-73 win over Milwaukee.

The Heat's only two victories in their last 13 games have come against the Bucks. Point guard Jason Williams, who didn't play in Monday's game for Miami, will miss at least a week with a right thumb injury suffered on March 18.
