After Adelman's 800th win, Rockets face Timberwolves

Mar 26, 2008 - 2:36 PM Minnesota (18-51) at Houston (48-23) 8:30 pm EDT

HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Rick Adelman may have 800 career wins, but he's hoping the Houston Rockets can put together a couple more to seal a playoff spot.

The Rockets continue their drive toward the postseason Wednesday when they host the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves.

Adelman became the 13th coach in NBA history to win 800 games Monday as Houston claimed a 108-100 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

"He's a Hall of Famer," Rockets forward Shane Battier said. "We all really enjoy playing for Coach Adelman. He's a great coach and a better person. We're really happy for his success.

"We want to win some games for him because he is that good of a coach. He's coached some great teams and shown that he can win with multiple teams and multiple players. Not every coach can do that."

Rafer Alston scored 28 points to lead the Rockets, who are just 2-3 since completing their 22-game winning streak - the second-longest in NBA history - on March 16.

Houston (48-23) currently owns third place in the Western Conference but is tied with the San Antonio Spurs (48-23) for second in the Southwest Division, one game behind the New Orleans Hornets (48-21).

Despite a dismal season, the Timberwolves have put together their best month this campaign, posting a 6-6 record in March with three wins in their previous four games, including a 114-93 victory against the New York Knicks on Saturday.
