Kings, Sonics playing for pride

Mar 30, 2008 - 1:00 PM Sacramento (32-40) at Seattle (17-56) 9:00 pm EDT

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Kings and Seattle SuperSonics are playing only for pride at this point of the season.

The Kings and SuperSonics meet on Sunday in a matchup between teams that have long been eliminated from the playoff race.

Sacramento (32-40) has lost four of its last five games, including a 114-108 defeat to the Washington Wizards on Friday. With the loss, the Kings are now in 11th place in the Western Conference and will miss the postseason for the second consecutive season.

Kevin Martin, who scored 25 points and dished out four assists against the Wizards, has been one of the few bright spots for the Kings this season. The 25-year-old point guard is the team's leading scorer at 23 points per game despite playing in just 54 contests this season due to a strained right groin.

The Sonics have been out of the playoff picture for the better part of the second half of the season and continue to struggle to find wins, falling to the Charlotte Bobcats, 96-93, for their second consecutive loss.

Kevin Durant scored 18 points to pace Seattle on Friday and is likely headed toward the Rookie of the Year award. He is averaging 19.8 points per game.
