Surging Nuggets look to continue postseason push

Mar 31, 2008 - 1:07 PM Denver (45-28) at Phoenix (49-24) 10:00 pm EDT

PHOENIX (Ticker) - The Denver Nuggets hope to match a season-high six-game winning streak Monday when they face the Phoenix Suns.

Denver's winning streak has vaulted the Nuggets into a three-way tie for seventh in the Western Conference with Golden State (45-28) and Dallas (45-28). Each team has nine games remaining.

The Nuggets also won six straight games from November 9-20.

Denver has scored at least 100 points in 14 straight games and is coming off a 119-112 triumph over Golden State on Saturday. Kenyon Martin scored a season-high 30 points and Carmelo Anthony added 25 for the Nuggets, who won despite a 4-of-20 shooting game from Allen Iverson.

But continuing their winning ways may be difficult for the Nuggets, who have lost their last six meetings in Phoenix.

The Suns are also playing well, winners of two straight and nine of their last 11 and are currently one-half game back of the Los Angles Lakers (50-24) for first place in the Pacific Division.

Phoenix is coming off a 110-104 victory over New Jersey on Saturday, led by Amare Stoudemire's 33 points and 15 rebounds. Stoudemire has scored 30 or more in four of his last five games, averaging 31.6 points over that span.

"Amare is really our go-to guy," Shaquille O'Neal said. "He's playing fabulous. He's putting up MVP-type numbers. Everybody else is just asked to play roles and that's fine with me."
