McGrady leads Rockets against SuperSonics

Apr 4, 2008 - 1:38 PM Houston (50-25) at Seattle (17-58) 10:30 pm EDT

SEATTLE (Ticker) - With Yao Ming out for the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his left foot, the Houston Rockets have turned to Tracy McGrady to lead them to the playoffs. McGrady has risen to the occasion.

McGrady and the Rockets continue their push toward the postseason on Friday when they visit the lowly Seattle SuperSonics.

The 28-year-old McGrady scored 26 of his 35 points in the second half, leading Houston to a 95-86 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday.

McGrady made 48 percent (14-for-29) of his shots from the floor against the Trail Blazers - a vast improvement over his dismal 12-for-31 (38 percent) performance during Tuesday's one-point loss to the Sacramento Kings.

With Thursday's win, Houston (50-25) became the sixth team in the Western Conference to reach the 50-win mark and moved into a fifth-place tie with the idle Phoenix Suns (50-25) in the conference standings. The win leaves the Rockets 2 1/2 games behind the first-place New Orleans Hornets (52-22).

The SuperSonics dropped their fourth straight contest and fell to 2-19 over their last 21 games, enduring a 102-84 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.

Seattle will be hard-pressed to end its losing streak against the Rockets, who have won 11 of their last 12 meetings between the teams.
