Suns vs. Clippers: Game 6 NBA Betting Picks for Wednesday, June 30th (2021)

Jun 30, 2021 - 3:02 PM

Injuries continue to dominate the headlines in the 2021 NBA Playoffs. Player injuries always play a factor in the postseason, but few can remember an instance where the injury bug has hit so many key players on so many teams. Trae Young missed last night’s pivotal contest against the Milwaukee Bucks, a game that also saw former MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo leave the game with a knee injury and not return. Tonight we have Game 6 of the Los Angeles Clippers and the Phoenix Suns. Kawhi Leonard remains sidelined for the Clippers, and Ivica Zubac is expected to miss at least one more game.

1. Suns ML | -107 at DraftKings Sportsbook

The Phoenix Suns should come out as desperate as the Los Angeles Clippers will tonight. If this series goes to Game 7, even though it’s in Phoenix, all bets are off. Phoenix knows this and will need to find their killer instinct and put Paul George and the Clippers down tonight. Vegas and the sharps appear to think this one is too close to call, with the line sitting as a ‘pick em’ for much of Wednesday morning. The Clippers have been playing the better basketball as of late, but as we will discuss below, if the Suns get back to their winning formula, they will be hard to beat, especially if Zubac remains out and Ty Lue continues to play Demarcus Cousins in a bit role. The current line is +0.5 on Phoenix at -109, and we get the moneyline at -107. The Suns are the better team and should be highly motivated to close this one out. Stopping Paul George will be an issue, but as long as the Suns can get their big going and keep the Clippers under .475, this game is theirs to lose.

2. Deandre Ayton Over 16.5 Points | -118 at DraftKings Sportsbook

The Phoenix Suns need to feed Deandre Ayton. Plain and simple. The Suns know it, the Clippers know it, fans know it, and the media knows it. There is no way the talented big man should be taking just nine shots in a close-out game, especially when Chris Paul and Devin Booker are both shooting under .430. Aside from Cousins, who is playing limited minutes, the Clippers simply do not have an answer for Ayton, even at full strength. Ayton has cleared 17 points in four of the five games this series, making this one of the top player props we have seen all series. Look for the Bahamian big man to reach more than half of this total by halftime. Tap the over as a potential multi unit play.

 3. Chris Paul Over 8.5 Assists | -167 at DraftKings Sportsbook

Chris Paul needs to step up for the Phoenix Suns tonight. He has not been the same since returning from health and safety protocols and needs to put together a complete game in order to quell the Clippers upset hopes. The value for this prop is squarely on the under tonight. CP3 has failed to hit nine or more assists in four of his last five games, and if he continues to look for his shot rather than setting up his teammates, he is going to fall under again tonight. However, as mentioned above, the Suns will be looking to or at least should be looking to, feed Deandre Ayton early and often.

The Suns entire team should come out inspired tonight, but it should be Paul who has the true fire tonight. This will likely be his last chance to make the NBA Finals and potentially lift the Larry O’B, and the Suns will need every ounce of his veteran leadership to defeat a Clippers team that has Paul George looking almost as good as he was pre-injury in Indiana. Again, the under is the value here, but if you buy into the Ayton projection and the prediction that the Suns will play their most complete game since CP3 returned, the over becomes the smarter play.
