Nuggets host Kings, clinging to final playoff spot

Apr 5, 2008 - 3:09 PM Sacramento (35-40) at Denver (46-29) 9:00 pm EDT

DENVER (Ticker) - The Denver Nuggets are clinging to the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. A visit from the Sacramento Kings should help them gain some breathing room.

The Nuggets try to solidify their postseason position on Saturday when they host the streaking Kings.

Denver (46-29) currently owns eighth place in the Western Conference and is just one-half game behind the seventh-place Dallas Mavericks (47-28). However, the Nuggets are only one-half game ahead of the Golden State Warriors (46-30) for the final playoff spot.

The Nuggets bounced back from a loss to the Phoenix Suns by claiming the back end of the home-and-home series, 126-120, on Tuesday. Allen Iverson scored 31 points and Carmelo Anthony added 25 and eight rebounds to lead Denver to its ninth win in the last 12 games.

Sacramento picked up its third straight win on Thursday, posting a 110-98 victory over the lowly Los Angeles Clippers.

Kevin Martin scored 26 points during the contest while reserve Francisco Garcia contributed 17 on 7-of-9 shooting from the field.
