Timberwolves, Grizzlies continue forgettable seasons

Apr 6, 2008 - 2:09 PM Memphis (20-56) at Minnesota (19-56) 6:30 pm EDT

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) - The Minnesota Timberwolves and Memphis Grizzlies likely wish the season would end right now.

The Timberwolves and Grizzlies meet on Sunday with both teams playing for nothing but pride.

Nothing has gone right this season for the Timberwolves, who traded former MVP Kevin Garnett to the Boston Celtics before the 2007-08 campaign for a package of players.

With almost an entirely new roster, Minnesota has stumbled to its third consecutive losing season and enter Sunday's contest on a three-game losing streak after suffering an embarrassing 117-88 drubbing against the Phoenix Suns on Friday.

Al Jefferson had 24 points and 12 assists against the Suns and has been the lone bright spot for the Timberwolves this season.

The crucial piece in the Garnett trade, Jefferson is averaging a team-high 21 points and 11 rebounds per game and ranks second in the NBA with 51 double-doubles this year.

The Grizzlies also lost a franchise center this season, sending Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles on February 1.

Memphis has posted a dismal 7-23 record since the trade and has dropped three of their last four games, including a 117-86 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Friday.
