Hawks look to solidify playoff spot at Pacers

Apr 8, 2008 - 1:20 PM Atlanta (36-41) at Indiana (33-44) 7:00 pm EDT

INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) - The Atlanta Hawks look to strengthen their grasp on the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference when they visit the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday.

Atlanta, which has not made the postseason since the 1998-99 season, holds a three-game lead over Indiana with just five games to play.

With a win, the Hawks will eliminate Indiana from playoff contention and their magic number to secure a playoff berth will be down to one over the New Jersey Nets (32-45), who don't play again until Wednesday.

The Hawks have won six of their last seven games and are coming off a 92-85 victory over Philadelphia on Saturday.

All five starters scored in double figures led by Joe Johnson's 22 points, while Josh Smith added 18 and 10 rebounds.

The Pacers kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a 105-97 come-from-behind victory over Milwaukee on Sunday.

Danny Granger scored 27 points and Travis Diener had 15 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter as Indiana outscored Milwaukee, 38-20, in the final period to erase a 10-point deficit.

The teams have split the first two meetings this season with each winning on their own home court.
