Nuggets, Warriors battle for playoff position

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) - The Denver Nuggets and Golden State Warriors are locked in a battle for the eighth seed in the Western Conference playoffs.

One of those teams can claim sole possession of the coveted spot on Thursday when the Nuggets visit the Warriors in a crucial matchup.

The teams enter Thursday's contest with identical records and if the Nuggets can claim a victory, they'll own the first tiebreaker with a 3-1 record against the Warriors this season.

A win by Golden State would not only even the season series but it would equal Denver's record (28-20) against Western Conference opponents - the second tiebreaker.

The Nuggets snapped a two-game losing streak with a 117-99 victory against the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday. Carmelo Anthony scored 36 points on 13-of-17 shooting while Marcus Camby added 13 and 18 rebounds to lead Denver.

The Warriors kept pace with the Nuggets on Tuesday, forging a 140-132 victory against the lowly Sacramento Kings.

Baron Davis scored 16 of his 33 points in the the first quarter as Golden State led for the entire game. The Warriors also set season-highs with 77 points in the first half and 140 total points.
