On Friday, the Lakers locked up their first Pacific Division title since 2003-04 with a 107-104 win over the New Orleans Hornets.
With two games remaining, Los Angeles is tied with New Orleans for the conference's best record. The Lakers (35-15) own the tiebreaker of the Hornets (33-17) based on a better conference record.
The defending champion Spurs also are battling for playoff position. They are tied for second place in the Southwest Division with Houston, just one-half game behind first-place New Orleans.
