Timberwolves meet Cavaliers in interconference battle

Nov 17, 2006 - 2:29 PM Minnesota (3-4) at Cleveland (6-2) 7:30 pm EST

CLEVELAND (Ticker) - The Cleveland Cavaliers try to extend their winning streak to five games when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday.

Both teams are coming off victories over the Portland Trail Blazers, with Cleveland posting a 100-87 win Wednesday in which LeBron James collected 32 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

The win gave Cleveland the best record in the Eastern Conference. The Cavaliers have started 6-2 in consecutive years for the first time in franchise history.

However, Cleveland guard Larry Hughes, who was averaging 13.8 points, went down with a sprained right ankle in the game. Hughes is expected to miss at least Friday's game and Saturday's road contest at Washington.

The Timberwolves snapped a four-game losing streak with 101-89 win over Portland on Tuesday.

Ricky Davis scored a season-high 27 points on 11-for-18 shooting to help the Timberwolves reach the 100-point mark for just the second time this season. Kevin Garnett added 20 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and five blocks for Minnesota, which has lost its last three road games.

Minnesota has won six of the last eight meetings vs. Cleveland, including five of the last seven here.

James averaged 36.5 points in two games against the Timberwolves last season.
