Gomes, Timberwolves upend Raptors

Oct 17, 2008 - 1:46 AM TORONTO (Ticker) -- Ryan Gomes scored 11 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves past the Toronto Raptors, 90-86, in a preseason matchup Thursday.

Gomes made 5-of-6 attempts from the free-throw line in the final stanza, including a pair with 10 seconds left to ice the victory.

Blake Ahearn and Randy Foye each drained three shots from the arc for the Timberwolves, who won despite being outrebounded, 45-37.

Minnesota stormed out to a 52-37 halftime lead, thanks in part to Al Jefferson, who collected 12 points and 13 boards.

Toronto's Andrea Bargnani scored 22 points, knocking down 7-of-13 from the field. The third-year forward also added 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.

Chris Bosh had 10 points and six rebounds in just over 21 minutes while Joey Graham scored 12 for the Raptors, who staged a second-half comeback behind 10 fourth-quarter points from Kris Humphries but fell to 2-2 in exhibition play.

Minnesota improved to 4-1 in the preseason.
