Bryant hurt as Lakers top Bobcats
Oct 22, 2008 - 5:22 AM Tim Powers PA SportsTicker Contributing WriterSAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- Jordan Farmer scored 17 points as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Charlotte Bobcats, 102-98, in a preseason matchup Tuesday that saw Kobe Bryant exit with an injury.
Bryant landed awkwardly after attempting to snare a rebound and signaled to the Lakers bench to remove him from the game with 3:08 left in the second quarter.
Last season's NBA Most Valuable Player, Bryant suffered a hyper-extended right knee on the play and did not return. He scored four points before the injury and will be re-evaluated Wednesday.
"I didn't even ask him about the injury," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "The trainer said he hyper-extended his knee somewhat. We'll see what it's like (Wednesday), and then go from there."
Charlotte took a 54-48 lead into halftime thanks to a big first half from Jason Richardson, who led all players with 13 points through the first two periods.
Los Angeles regained the lead for good at the start of the fourth quarter when Andrew Bynum's slam dunk put the Lakers on top 71-70 with 11:45 remaining.
Bynum contributed 16 points and Trevor Ariza added 14 for Los Angeles.
Richardson and Gerald Wallace paced the Bobcats with 16 points apiece.
