Warriors pull away early for win over Lietuvos Rytas
Oct 22, 2008 - 5:46 AM By Ryan Leong PA SportsTicker Contributing WriterOAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Stephen Jackson scored 28 points to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 126-106 victory over Lietuvos Rytas of Lithuania on Tuesday night.
Corey Maggette added 17 for the Warriors who won two straight to close out their preseason. It was the second time Golden State had hosted a Lithuanian team. Last year, the Warriors played Zalgris Kaunas.
The game was close throughout the first quarter and the Warriors took a two point lead on a tip in by Maggette with just before the buzzer.
The Warriors went on a 11-4 run in the second quarter and outscored Lietuvos Rytas, 33-15 to take a 65-45 lead.
The Lithuanian team responded with a 10-0 run to start the third and the deficit to four after a 3-pointer by Mindaugas Lukauskis with 5:52 remaining in the quarter.
Golden State quickly regained control and regained a double-digit advantage. Rookie Anthony Randolph's put-back slam dunk gave the Warriors a 22-point lead with 9:25 remaining.
Chuck Eidson scored 28 points and pulled down nine rebounds for Lietuvos Rytas. Lithuanian Olympic teammates, Marijonas Petravicius added 22 points and Mindaugas Lukauskis had 20.
Lietuvos Rytas which won the ULEB Eurocup in 2005 and qualified for the Euroleague tournament last season, made 10-of-28 from the arc but also committed 27 turnovers.
Golden State concluded its preseason with a 4-2 record and will host the New Orleans Hornets in its season opener on October 29.
