Williams, Speights lead 76ers past Nets
Oct 23, 2008 - 2:58 AM EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Louis Williams and rookie Marreese Speights each scored 18 points to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a 118-100 victory over the New Jersey Nets on Wednesday.Thaddeus Young scored 16 points and Willie Green added 14 for the 76ers, who finished the preseason at 4-3 and host Toronto next Wednesday to open the regular season.
Williams was 5-of-6 from the arc as the 76ers used the longball to their advantage. Philadelphia made 14-of-27 3-pointers (52 percent) while New Jersey was 7-of-21 (33 percent).
Yi Jianlian and rookie Brook Lopez each scored 16 points for the Nets. Lopez added six rebounds and three blocks.
The Nets also had a tough shooting night at the free throw line, converting just 17-of-29 (59 percent). They will have one more preseason game to iron that out, Friday at New York, before opening the regular season at Washington next Wednesday.
Devin Harris scored 13 points and Vince Carter and Maurice Ager added 12 for the Nets (2-4), who have lost four straight.
