Wizards cruise past Spurs

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- The Washington Wizards grabbed an early lead and never looked back, defeating the San Antonio Spurs, 100-95, on Wednesday at the AT&T Center.

It was the most points Washington has scored this preseason, and also the most San Antonio has allowed.

The Wizards were on target early, taking a 22-10 edge with 4:47 left in the first quarter. Caron Butler was a big reason, pacing his team by scoring 10 of his 15 points in the first 12 minutes. He also finished with six assists.

A pair of free throws by Tim Duncan cut the deficit to 45-41 with 3:14 left in the second, but Nick Young - who scored 11 in the quarter - and JaVale McGee kept Washington rolling to a 52-43 halftime lead.

Young and McGee, who had nine points in the second, scored 20 of Washington's 22 points in the period. McGee finished with 11.

Washington led by as many as 15, although things did get interesting late.

Desmon Farmer, who scored 12 points, hit back-to-back 3-pointers that drew the Spurs within 94-90 with 2:16 left, but Dee Brown countered with a shot from the arc that sealed the win for Washington.

Young, a second-year player from Southern California, finished with 15 points. Antawn Jamison added 14 for the Wizards, who improved to 2-4 in the preseason.

Duncan, who did not play in the fourth quarter, scored 20 points in 22 minutes and secured eight rebounds.

Tony Parker added 10 points and six assists for San Antonio, which fell to 3-3 in preseason action.
