Oct 25, 2008 - 2:24 AM By Larry Fleisher PA SportsTicker Contributing Writer

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Vince Carter scored 20 points in three quarters as the New Jersey Nets held on for a 111-110 victory over the New York Knicks Friday night in the preseason finale for both teams.

Devin Harris and Bobby Simmons added 16 apiece for the Nets, who squandered most of a 21-point lead in the final 6 1/2 minutes.

New York used a 26-6 run over the last half of the fourth quarter to get back in the game, but a big basket from Keyon Dooling with one minute left put New Jersey ahead 111-106.

Jamal Crawford, who led the Knicks with 30 points, pulled New York within a point when he converted a layup with 28 seconds left. He had a chance to give New York the win at the buzzer, but his off-balance 3-pointer came up short.

The Nets concluded the preseason with a 3-4 record and will open the regular season Wednesday in Washington.

The Knicks also finished 3-4 and will begin the Mike D'Antoni era Wednesday against the Miami Heat.

Yi Jianlian sat out with a sore right foot while Stromile Swift (sore back) and Eduardo Najera (sore left wrist) also took the night off for New Jersey.

Wilson Chandler (sprained left knee) missed the game for New York but is expected to play in the home opener. Rookie Danilo Gallinari, who has begun practicing, also sat out as he recovers from a back injury
