Brown eyes victory in debut with Bobcats

Oct 30, 2008 - 10:26 AM Charlotte at Cleveland (0-1) 7:00 p.m. EDT

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Larry Brown is back.

Brown makes his coaching debut with the Charlotte Bobcats on Thursday when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The 67-year-old Brown brings a wealth of coaching success with him to the Bobcats' bench. He is fifth on the all-time NBA wins list with 1,010 career victories and is the only coach to win an NCAA championship as well as an NBA title.

The Bobcats are the ninth NBA team that Brown has coached in 23 professional seasons. A 2002 Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, Brown's University of Kansas squad won the 1988 national championship before winning his only NBA title with the Pistons six years later.

The 67-year-old last coached the New York Knicks before being fired following the 2005-06 season and will likely be in for a rebuilding year after Sam Vincent was dismissed following a 32-50 record in his only season with the Bobcats.

Charlotte faces a tough test in its season opener as the Cavaliers look to bounce back from a 90-85 loss to the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics on Tuesday.

LeBron James had 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Cleveland, who fell to 13-26 in season openers.
