Wade, Beasley fuel Heat romp

MIAMI (Ticker) -- Dwyane Wade scored 20 points to lead the Miami Heat past the Sacramento Kings in commanding fashion with a 103-77 victory on Friday.

Heat rookie Michael Beasley scored 17 points and Shawn Marion registered a double-double with 13 and 10 rebounds.

The undersized Heat used their quickness and athletic ability to their advantage, forcing the Kings into 26 turnovers.

"We want our defense to really ignite our offense," said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, who earned his first career victory. "We want to make this a place where teams don't want to come.

"We want to overwhelm them with our energy and our defensive stops and our ability to utilize our speed in the open court."

Miami scored 41 points off turnovers one game after allowing 120 points in a season-opening loss to the New York Knicks.

"The guys really took the loss to heart," Spoelstra said. "Almost everybody came in (on Thursday) on a day off."

Miami jumped out to early leads of 9-2 and 19-9, leading the entire way en route to its largest win ever against Sacramento, which has dropped nine of the last 10 in the series.

"I know what a disaster is and I just saw one," Kings coach Reggie Theus said.

Miami used a 15-4 run in the second quarter to stretch its lead to 48-29 after a 3-pointer by Daequan Cook. Wade scored eight consecutive points - all on dunks - for the Heat during the run.

"You have to learn how to play when the other team is putting their hands on you," Theus said. "I thought we played on the back of our heels because of their physicality. It really bothers me because that's something you can't coach."

The second half was similar to the first as the Heat went on a 23-5 over an eight-minute stretch in the third quarter, extending the bulge to 72-38 with 3:01 left in the period.

"Every basketball game I have ever played you want to come out in the beginning of the third quarter and establish yourself," Kings center Spencer Hawes said. "They came out right away, set the tone once again, and buried us."

The Heat, who had six players score in double figures, also got production off the bench from Cook and Mark Blount, who scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Wade shot 7-of-11 from the field and added eight assists, four steals and four blocks in 27 minutes.

"It's very, very important to me (to win the home opener)," Wade said. "Last year, we won nine games at home and you never never want to do that."

Miami shot 47 percent (38-of-81) from the floor compared to Sacramento, which shot 38 percent (29-of-76), including 2-of-19 from the arc.

"If we play like that against anybody with the energy we played with and the havoc we caused on the defensive end, it's going to be tough for anyone to come in here and get a victory," Wade said.

Sacramento was led by John Salmons and Quincy Douby, who each scored 14 points.
