No. 1 pick Rose looks to help Bulls rebound vs. Grizzlies

Nov 1, 2008 - 10:40 AM Memphis (1-1) at Chicago (1-1) 8:00 pm. EDT

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Derrick Rose is looked upon as the Chicago Bulls' savior, but he can't do it all himself.

Rose's teammates will try and rebound from a horrendous shooting performance on Saturday when the Bulls host the Memphis Grizzlies, who are coming off a dramatic win.

The No. 1 overall pick of June's draft, Rose is the elite talent the Bulls have been lacking since Michael Jordan retired. Rose is also a hometown product - he went to Chicago's Simeon High School before nearly helping the University of Memphis to a national title in his one season there.

Chicago's new favorite son was the lone bright spot in a 96-80 loss to Boston on Friday, scoring 18 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor.

The rest of the Bulls were held in check by the Celtics' suffocating defense. Chicago shot just 29 percent (25-of-84) from the floor. One person that needs to rebound is forward Tyrus Thomas, who hit just 2-of-17 field goal attempts.

The good news is that Chicago should face less resistance against the Grizzlies, who allowed 106.9 points per game last season - the third-worst mark in the league.

Memphis picked up its first win of the season on Friday. Rudy Gay scored 29 points and drilled an 18-footer at the buzzer to lift the Grizzlies to a 86-84 triumph over Orlando. Rookie O.J. Mayo, the fifth overall pick of June's draft, recorded 17 points and six assists.

The teams split two meetings last season.
