Warriors seek eighth straight win over Grizzlies

Nov 3, 2008 - 2:47 PM Golden State (1-2) at Memphis (1-2) 8:00 pm. EST.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- The Golden State Warriors aim for an eighth straight win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.

The Warriors picked up their first win of the season Saturday as Stephen Jackson scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half of a 105-97 victory over New Jersey.

New addition Corey Maggette added 20 points and 10 rebounds. Maggette was signed as a free agent to help offset the loss of guard Baron Davis.

Golden State is already off to a better start than last season, when it started out 0-6, and a matchup with the Grizzlies should go along way to helping them to their first winning streak of the season.

The Warriors have not lost to Memphis since a 144-135 setback on January 3, 2007.

Memphis is coming off a 96-86 loss to Chicago on Saturday in which it was outscored, 54-36, in the second half. Rudy Gay led the way with 20 points, while rookie O.J. Mayo had 16 points. The third overall pick of June's draft, Mayo is averaging 14.6 points.
