Woeful Clippers still searching for first win

Nov 7, 2008 - 11:26 AM Houston (3-2) at LA Clippers (0-5), 10:30 p.m. EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- A couple of offseason moves has not translated into success for the Los Angeles Clippers.

Los Angeles hopes to avoid its sixth straight loss when it hosts the Houston Rockets on Friday.

The 0-5 start is the Clippers' worst since they lost the first 17 games to begin the 1998-99 season.

Despite the departure of Elton Brand, Los Angeles brought in point guard Baron Davis and center Marcus Camby in hopes of avoiding their third straight losing season.

The Clippers have lost their five games by an average of 20.8 points, which includes a 106-88 setback against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday. The Lakers used a 22-0, fourth-quarter run to blow the game open.

Houston has dropped two straight, including the opener of a five-game road trip in heartbreaking fashion on Thursday.

Yao Ming's three-point play gave the Rockets a one-point overtime lead with less than a second remaining. However, Brandon Roy then took an inbounds pass and launched a 30-foot buzzer-beater to give the Portland Trail Blazers a 101-99 triumph.

Tracy McGrady scored 30 points in the loss and leads the team in scoring at 22.0 points per contest.
