Unbeaten Hawks look to continue surprising start
Nov 11, 2008 - 2:54 PM Atlanta (5-0) at Chicago (3-4), 8:30 p.m. ESTCHICAGO (Ticker) -- The surprising Atlanta Hawks hope to remain unbeaten when they visit the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday.
Coming off its first postseason appearance in nine years, Atlanta has reeled off five straight wins to start the season, marking the club's best start since it went 11-0 to begin the 1997-98 campaign.
Playing without Josh Smith, the Hawks pulled out an 89-85 victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday to remain the lone undefeated team in the Eastern Conference. The Los Angeles Lakers (5-0) are the only other team without a loss.
Joe Johnson scored 25 points in the win and the 6-7 guard leads the team in scoring with 25.2 points.
If the Hawks hope to extend their unbeaten run, they will have to get a rare victory at Chicago where they have lost seven straight.
The Bulls dropped their first home game of the season on Saturday, a 106-97 setback to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Ben Gordon had 29 points in the loss and rookie Derrick Rose had 17 and nine assists. The top overall pick is averaging 17.7 points and 5.1 assists this season.
