Jackson stepping up for shorthanded Warriors

Nov 13, 2008 - 11:18 AM Detroit (5-2) at Golden State (3-5) 10:30 p.m. EST

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Stephen Jackson is living up to his title as captain of the Golden State Warriors.

Jackson and the Warriors try to earn back-to-back wins for the first time this season when they host Allen Iverson and the Detroit Pistons on Thursday.

Golden State has been bitten hard by the injury bug. Al Harrington, who has publicly asked to be traded, has missed three games with a strained lower back and key offseason acquisition Corey Maggette has been sidelined for each of the last four contests with a strained left hamstring. Monta Ellis has been suspended for the first 30 games of the season after suffering a knee injury in a moped accident during the offseason.

Without these players, Jackson has had to step up. He has played at least 41 minutes in all but one game of eight games, logging 48 during Tuesday's 113-110 overtime victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Jackson scored a season-high 30 points, including six in overtime, against the Timberwolves and helped the Warriors overcome a nine-point deficit with 4:30 remaining in the fourth. Despite his 6-foot-8 frame, Jackson played point guard during the game and did a nice job of navigating the offense without much experience.

Golden State will need another strong performance from Jackson against the Pistons, who earned their first win on Tuesday since acquiring Iverson.

The nine-time All-Star had 30 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, leading Detroit to a 100-92 victory over the Sacramento Kings.
