NBA Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sunday (11/20)

Nov 20, 2022 - 1:54 AM

Sunday’s slate of NBA games features eight matchups. Let’s take a look at some of the lines and totals to find some best bets.

DraftKings NBA Offer: Bet $5, Win $200

Detroit Pistons at Sacramento Kings

The young Detroit team has been going through growing pains to start the season. They’ve also been going through physical pains, as starters Cade Cunningham and Isaiah Stewart remain out of the lineup with injuries. Even without the injuries, the Pistons have been the worst team in the league.

They’ll continue a west coast road trip on Sunday against a surging Sacramento squad. Sacramento has the second-best adjusted offensive rating in the league and should have no issue against a Detroit defense that ranks second to last, 29th, in adjusted defensive rating.

Not only should the Kings continue their winning streak in this Sunday matinee, I think they can roll against an undermanned, young Detroit squad that is in the doldrums of a long road trip.

The Kings are the better team right now, and even at -9.5, they’re undervalued. I’ll take the Kings as one of my best bets.

Pick: Kings -9.5 (-110)

Golden State Warriors at Houston Rockets

The spread here is not indicative of how these teams have played this year. The Warriors are the better team, but they’ve looked awful all season on the road. Until they show that they can fix these road woes, they’re a team you’ll have to look to fade.

The Warriors have come out of the gate after their championship run with the 17th-ranked adjusted offense, and the 17th-ranked adjusted defense. I expect them to eventually get things figured out with their talented roster, but it hasn’t happened yet, and they shouldn’t be giving ten points on the road to anyone in the league right now.

The fact is the Rockets are not good, but they’re 6-8-2 ATS and have only played five home games on the season. I understand the hesitancy to back a young team like Houston. This is strictly a fade of a Warriors team that isn’t playing well on the road (1-7 ATS away from home) and shouldn’t be double-digit favorites.

I will hold my nose, trust the number, and take the Rockets as the best bet.

Pick: Rockets +10 (-110)

Memphis Grizzlies at Brooklyn Nets

Memphis will be without superstar Ja Morant for a while, but this team is accustomed to that reality. The Grizzlies actually performed well in Morant’s absence during the 2021-22 campaign. They’ll match up with a Brooklyn Nets team that has significantly underwhelmed on the year. Yet, the Nets opened as eight-point favorites. I think this number is way too inflated, even with Morant out.

The Nets’ defense has been poor to start the season, ranking 22nd in adjusted defensive rating. Also, they’re coming off of a road trip, so you can expect some tired legs. The Grizzlies should still be able to score even though they’re undermanned.

I like this number regardless, but I’m monitoring another possible angle. Brooklyn could get Kyrie Irving back after his suspension. If anything, this is a negative for Brooklyn. The Nets were 2-6 with Irving before the suspension and finally started playing a winning brand of basketball with him out of the picture. If he returns in this game, I can’t imagine it is a positive in the locker room or on the court.

Whether Irving suits up for this contest or not, the Grizzlies are the right play here.

Pick: Grizzlies +7.5 (-110)
