Kings G Udrih filling in nicely for injured Martin
Nov 14, 2008 - 11:25 AM Phoenix (6-3) at Sacramento (4-5) 10:00 p.m. ESTSACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Beno Udrih is helping the Sacramento Kings survive without their top scorer.
Udrih and the Kings go for their second straight win without point guard Kevin Martin when they host the Phoenix Suns on Friday.
The 26-year-old native of Slovenia, Udrih scored a career-high 30 points and added seven assists and five rebounds, leading Sacramento to a 103-98 victory against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday.
It was the second straight game without Martin, who is averaging a team-high 22.9 points per game and will miss at least the next week after spraining his left ankle in the third quarter of the Kings' victory over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday.
Udrih will have to be at his best against the Suns, who rank fourth in the NBA, averaging 100.9 points per game and have yet to suffer a loss when surpassing that total.
Phoenix suffered a 94-82 setback to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. The loss was overshadowed by a melee with 27 seconds left in the third quarter.
Matt Barnes of the Suns shoved Houston guard Rafer Alston, who was attempting to set a pick. After Tracy McGrady hit a basket, Alston went at Barnes, sparking a pushing and shoving match.
Steve Nash went after Alston and McGrady pushed Phoenix's All-Star guard to the floor. Suns center Shaquille O'Neal then reached in and shoved the pile to the floor.
When order was restored, Barnes and Alston were ejected and Nash, O'Neal and McGrady received technical fouls.
