Timberwolves desperate for a win

Nov 16, 2008 - 8:30 AM Minnesota (1-7) at Denver (5-4), 8:00 p.m. EST

DENVER (Ticker) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves have been close, but are still searching for their first victory since their season opener.

Minnesota hopes to snap a seven-game slide on Sunday when it visits the Denver Nuggets.

Five of the seven losses have been by five points or less, including Saturday's 98-93 setback to the Portland Trail Blazers. Two of the defeats have come in overtime.

Al Jefferson leads the Timberwolves with 22.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.

Denver, which has gone 4-1 since acquiring Chauncey Billups, posted a 94-85 victory at Boston on Friday.

Carmelo Anthony had 18 points and 13 rebounds in the win, while Billups also scored 18. Billups is averaging 18.2 points and 6.2 assists with the Nuggets.

Minnesota lost eight straight last season from December 22-January 6.
