Warriors hope to have Jackson vs. Sixers
Nov 23, 2008 - 8:07 AM Golden State (5-7) at Philadelphia (6-6) 5:00 pm. ESTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Golden State Warriors hope to have their newest addition, Jamal Crawford, in the lineup on Sunday when they open a five-game road trip against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Golden State acquired Crawford from the New York Knicks on Friday for Al Harrington, who had been in coach Don Nelson's doghouse and had not played since November 5 due to a back injury.
Crawford is a key addition for the Warriors, who lost Baron Davis to free agency and are without Monta Ellis for the next 18 games. Ellis was suspended 30 games for lying to the team about how he injured his ankle in the offseason.
Ellis was expected to play point guard in the absence of Davis. Crawford, who is averaging 19.6 points and shooting a career-best 45.5 percent from beyond the arc, will likely fill that role in the meantime.
"We think he is an excellent fit for our style and the fact that he can play multiple positions as a combo guard is a big plus," Warriors executive vice president of basketball operations Chris Mullin said.
Golden State is coming off a 115-110 loss to Chicago on Friday. Stephen Jackson scored 32 points and Corey Maggette added 24 for the Warriors.
They face a red-hot Sixers team led by forward Elton Brand, who is used to playing Golden State from his days with the Los Angeles Clippers. Brand is averaging 20.7 points and 11.4 rebounds in 27 career games against the Warriors.
On Friday, Brand hit a go-ahead jumper with 58 seconds left to lift Philadelphia to its fourth win in five games, an 89-88 win over his former team.
