Lakers look to keep rolling vs. Nets
Nov 25, 2008 - 2:41 PM New Jersey (6-6) at LA Lakers (11-1), 10:30pm ESTLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Lakers' lone loss this season now seems like a mere blip on the radar. After all, it was 11 days ago - and the reigning Western Conference champs have proceeded to win four straight to wipe it from their memory.
They will look to extend their winning streak to five on Tuesday night as they play host to the New Jersey Nets.
Averaging a league-high 105.9 points per game, the Lakers have manhandled most of their opponents, with seven of their 11 wins coming by double-digits. The Nets will try to avoid becoming victim No. 12 - and at the very least, they do have a bit of history on their side.
Reigning league MVP Kobe Bryant has had an up-and-down career against the Nets, averaging just 21.9 points in 17 career meetings - his lowest scoring average against any opponent. He has shot just 41 percent from the field in those games.
Last season's meeting between these two at the Staples Center went the Nets' way as well - as New Jersey held him to 7-of-21 shooting en route to a 102-100 triumph. Of course, that version of the Nets still had Richard Jefferson and Jason Kidd, both of whom are now gone.
This year's Nets are just 6-6, but have won two straight and are beginning to see the emergence of point guard Devin Harris as a serious offensive threat. He has scored 30 or more points in four of his last six contests.
Harris is ninth in the league at 23.2 points per game and leads the NBA in field-goal attempts per game (11.4), connecting at an 83.5 percent clip.
