Redd scores 45 points as Bucks snap 10-game slide to Lakers

Nov 29, 2006 - 6:34 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Michael Redd was aware of how long it's been since the Milwaukee Bucks won against the Los Angeles Lakers. He was determined to change that.

Redd scored a season-high 45 points as the Bucks snapped a 10-game losing streak with a 109-105 victory over the Lakers.

Mo Williams added 22 points and six assists as Milwaukee posted its first win over Los Angeles since March 21, 2001.

"I was a rookie on that team," Redd said. "I told them it's been six years since we've beat them. We talked about it in the locker room before the game. This is a win we had to have, especially to break the streak against the Lakers. We have a tough road trip ahead of us and wanted to start it off right."

The Bucks are currently on a four-game West Coast trek.

Redd, who drilled five 3-pointers, had 20 first-half points and 18 in the final quarter. He made 16-of-30 shots overall and netted 13 straight points during a 16-2 run for what appeared to be a safe 95-82 cushion with 7:33 to go.

"I just wanted to come out and attack, be aggressive," Redd said. "Come out and make Kobe (Bryant) work on the defensive end as much as possible. My teammates did a great job looking for me. Thank God things went down for me tonight."

"I don't think about it," Bryant said of Redd's performance. "I can't wait to play him next time."

But Los Angeles kept chipping away to eventually close to 108-105 with 18 seconds left after a 3-pointer by Luke Walton. The Lakers had a chance to tie following a turnover by Redd.

But Bryant, who was defended well by former Laker Ruben Patterson, badly missed a deep 3-pointer with six ticks remaining. Patterson split a pair of foul shots with two seconds on the clock to seal it.

"The win was significant for us," Bucks coach Terry Stotts said. "We had let games like this slip away. Obviously, getting a win on the road is important, but the way we did it was even more important."

Bryant netted 27 points and Lamar Odom collected 21, 13 rebounds and eight assists for Los Angeles, which made just 11-of-37 shots from the arc.

"They took a lot of threes and missed some of them," Stotts said. "We are the type of team that needs to mix things up on defense and we did that tonight."
