Heat hope to keep rolling vs. Hawks

Dec 12, 2008 - 11:20 AM Atlanta (12-9) at Miami (12-9) 7:30 p.m. EST

MIAMI (Ticker) -- A year ago, the Miami Heat were the laughingstock of the NBA. No one is laughing anymore.

The Heat will be looking to post their fifth consecutive win when they face the Atlanta Hawks on Friday.

Miami finished an NBA-worst 15-67 last season as injuries and apathy decimated the team. All set this season with a new coach and a healthy Dwyane Wade, the Heat are looking like playoff contenders.

Wade leads the NBA in scoring at 29.5 points per game and has been on fire of late, earning NBA Player of the Week honors last week and averaging 34.7 points during the team's recent spurt.

He poured in 41 points, including 10 in the final 8 1/2 minutes, on Monday as Miami edged the Charlotte Bobcats, 100-96.

The Hawks will be looking to salvage a win in the finale of a four-game road trip that has seen them drop the first three legs to Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.

They received 29 points from Joe Johnson and 17 off the bench from Flip Murray against the Spurs on Wednesday, but no one else managed to crack double-digits.
