Anthony tries to continue high-scoring pace for Nuggets

Dec 1, 2006 - 2:00 PM Denver (8-5) at Minnesota (6-8) 8:00 pm EST

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) - Carmelo Anthony is playing some of the basketball of his career and is taking aim at a long-range milestone.

The league's second-leading scorer, Anthony looks to lead the Denver Nuggets to their seventh victory in eight contests Friday when they meet the Minnesota Timberwolves for the second time this season.

Averaging 31.5 points, Anthony trails Philadelphia's Allen Iverson by two-tenths of a point in the scoring race. He has topped the 30-point mark in 10 of his last 11 outings and could become the 26th player to average 30 for a season.

Anthony made 17-of-30 shots and scored a season-high 37 points and Marcus Camby added 14 with 10 rebounds for the Nuggets, who had a six-game winning streak snapped with Tuesday's 108-96 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Camby, who has been named to the league's second team All-Defensive squad in each of the past two seasons, is averaging 11.2 rebounds and 2.5 blocks, and has nine double-doubles.

Ranked 28th in scoring (92.1), Minnesota has lost two straight contests after a three-game winning streak but has captured four of six home outings this season.

Kevin Garnett scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Randy Foye added 11 points for the Timberwolves, who committed 20 turnovers in Tuesday's 82-75 loss to the Houston Rockets.

Garnett has reached double figures in scoring in 336 consecutive games, the ninth- longest streak in history. He also has the eighth-longest run (338), set from October 31, 1997-February 3, 2002.

Garnett scored 27 points to lead Minnesota to a 112-109 victory over Denver in their earlier matchup November 3.
