Weary Nets take on Kings
Jan 5, 2009 - 2:47 PM Sacramento (8-26) at New Jersey (16-18) 7:30 p.m. ESTEAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- After consecutive overtime contests, the New Jersey Nets would probably like to avoid extra basketball Monday when they host the struggling Sacramento Kings.
Without point guard Devin Harris, who sat out the game while nursing a strained right hamstring, New Jersey fell to the Miami Heat, 101-96, on Saturday. The Nets leading scorer, averaging 23.7 points a game, Harris' status for Monday's game is up in the air.
Keyon Dooling led the way with 23 points and seven assists in Harris' absence, but Dwyane Wade torched the Nets for 29 in New Jersey's third loss in four games.
The Nets won their last home game against Atlanta, 93-91, in overtime on Friday. It was just their sixth win in 18 home contests and they will go for consecutive home at the IZOD Center for the first time this season.
New Jersey was perfect in its previous four overtime games this season, including a 116-114 victory over Sacramento on November 26. John Salmons did his best to keep the Kings in the game, scoring a career-high 38 points in the loss.
The Kings were upended by Indiana on Saturday, 122-117, despite 45 points from Kevin Martin in his third game back from an ankle injury. Martin sank 13-of-24 from the field, including 7-of-12 from 3-point range, and made all 12 of his free-throw attempts.
Sacramento has lost eight of nine games over and 10 consecutive contests on the road.
