Wizards get a break against Raptors

Jan 7, 2009 - 11:38 AM Toronto (14-21) at Washington (7-26) 7:00 p.m. EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- After dealing with a pair of conference powers, the Washington Wizards should be happy to see another sub-.500 club.

The Wizards will be looking to win for the fourth time in seven games when they host the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday.

Owners of the worst record in the Eastern Conference at 7-26, Washington won its first back-to-back games of the season from December 27-29 and then bounced back from a pair of losses with an 80-77 win over the powerful Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday.

But when faced with the tall task of taking on another of the Eastern Conference's elite, the Wizards were unable to muster another win on Tuesday, falling to the Orlando Magic, 89-80. Caron Butler scored 29 points against the Magic, but Antawn Jamison was the only other Washington player in double figures with 13.

The Wizards' biggest problem all season has been scoring, averaging 93.8 points per game.

The Raptors had their two-game winning streak snapped on Monday with a 107-97 setback at Milwaukee. Chris Bosh scored 31 points and Andrea Bargnani added 21 in the losing effort.

Bargnani is in the midst of his best stretch of the season, averaging 21 points over the last four games.
