Without Anthony, Nuggets go for fifth straight win

Jan 7, 2009 - 11:36 AM Miami (18-15) at Denver (24-12), 9:00 p.m. EST

DENVER (Ticker) -- The Denver Nuggets continue their homestand without Carmelo Anthony on Wednesday, when they host the Miami Heat.

Anthony broke a bone in his shooting hand during Denver's 135-115 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Monday and will miss three to four weeks. The sixth-year pro leads the team in scoring at 21.1 points per game.

Kenyon Martin scored 25 points and Chauncey Billups had 24 and 11 assists in Monday's win, which was the fourth straight for the Nuggets. Denver has scored at least 105 points during their four-game winning streak.

The Nuggets will need someone to step up and help offset Dwyane Wade, who leads the league in scoring at 28.7 points per game.

Wade had 24 points and 12 assists on Monday, but Miami lost for the third time in five games to San Antonio, 91-84.

Rookie Michael Beasley posted his first career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

Wednesday's contest is the third of a season-high seven-game homestand for Denver.
