Pacers, Warriors set to unleash offensive fireworks
Jan 11, 2009 - 2:30 PM Indiana (13-23) at Golden State (10-28) 9:00 p.m. ESTOAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Once again, defense will have to take a back seat. The Golden State Warriors and Indiana Pacers wouldn't - or couldn't - have it any other way.
Two of the league's most high-powered offenses will square off against two of the leakiest defenses in the NBA on Sunday night, as the Warriors begin a seven-game homestand against the Pacers.
Together, the clubs average 209.4 points per contest. Their opponents, however, fare even better. The Warriors yield a league-high 111.6 points per game - and the Pacers aren't far behind, giving up 106.3 points to rank third-worst in the league. Since December 26, neither team has played a single game in which both teams did not reach the 100-point mark.
Golden State is coming off a 113-100 setback to the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday night - their fifth loss in a row. LaMarcus Aldridge scored 26 points and Brandon Roy added 19 in his return from a hamstring injury to lead the way for Portland.
The Pacers' most recent outing may have been a bit harder to swallow. With a chance to topple the Los Angeles Lakers for the second time this season, they self-destructed in the final minute of play. Kobe Bryant took advantage of a mismatch against the undersized Jarrett Jack and buried to go-ahead jumper to make it 121-119.
Indiana had one last chance to tie things back up - or take the lead - but Jeff Foster took the inbounds pass and did nothing with the ball, inexplicably looking around for someone to pass to as the final three seconds of the game ticked off the clock.
