Spurs, Lakers meet in rematch of Conference Finals

Jan 14, 2009 - 11:26 AM LA Lakers (31-6) at San Antonio (24-12) 9:00 p.m. EST

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- The San Antonio Spurs finally test their mettle against the top team in the Western Conference and hope for a degree of revenge in the process.

The Spurs look to rebound from a rare loss when they host the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.

San Antonio has yet to face the Lakers this season after Los Angeles, which owns the top spot in the West, ousted the Spurs in five games during the Conference Finals in 2007-08.

After a slow start to this campaign while dealing with a variety of injuries, San Antonio has endured only four losses in its last 19 games, including a 105-98 setback against the Orlando Magic on Sunday.

The Spurs are the best 3-point shooting team in the NBA, making 40.3 percent from the arc, but were only 3-of-13 against the Magic. Orlando made 14-of-22 3-pointers, the most hit against San Antonio this season.

The Lakers needed a late 3-pointer from Kobe Bryant to extend their winning streak to four games on Tuesday.

Bryant nailed the go-ahead 3-pointer with 27 seconds left, lifting Los Angeles to a 105-100 victory over the Houston Rockets.

The reigning MVP, Bryant scored 33 points for the Lakers, who outscored the Rockets, 27-18, in the final period to secure the win.
