Williams, Bucks steal game from Warriors

Dec 3, 2006 - 6:34 AM OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Mo Williams didn't let a bad game shake his confidence.

After missing his first 10 shots from the floor, Williams sank the decisive jumper to give the Milwaukee Bucks the lead for good in a 115-110 victory over the Golden State Warriors, who blew their second straight fourth-quarter lead.

Charlie Bell scored a season-high 28 points, including five 3-pointers, and Michael Redd added 24 for the Bucks, who improved to 2-1 on their four-game road trip.

"I'm glad we won, I'll say that," Williams said. "It makes everything that much sweeter. The whole game, my teammates stayed behind me. Charlie Bell especially said, 'Listen, you're going to be the one down in the clutch to make the plays,' and they stayed and had faith in me.

"Coach called my number. I was 0-for-12 from the floor and calling for me to make plays and put me in a position to make those plays down the stretch so I thank him for having confidence in me. I know I had a rough night and it happens but not like that. Down the stretch I wanted to stay with it, make some plays and fortunately I did."

The Bucks trailed by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter before Williams converted a layup for a three-point play - just his second basket of the game - to cap a 12-2 burst for a 106-106 deadlock with 3:47 left.

"We were down 10 in the fourth quarter and missed a lot of layups but we were still able to come back," Milwaukee coach Terry Stotts said. "Any road win is good, especially against a good home team like Golden State."

Golden State reclaimed the lead on a 3-pointer by Monta Ellis, who had 19 points, and Redd split a pair of free throws to draw Milwaukee to 110-109 with 90 seconds to go.

After Ellis missed a jumper, Williams hit his biggest basket of the evening, drilling a jumper from the left elbow for a 111-110 edge with 53 ticks left.

"I don't know what he was shooting but he made the plays when it counted and made the big shots when he had been struggling most of the game," Stotts said.

The Warriors came away empty on their ensuing possession and Williams missed his second foul shot with 13 seconds to go, but Golden State's Matt Barnes knocked the rebound out of bounds. The Bucks added three more free throws to seal it.

"I just came in too much and I tried to jump back and get it and just didn't do it," Barnes said.

Troy Murphy collected 23 points and 11 rebounds and Baron Davis added 19 and 11 assists for Golden State, which fell to Indiana on Wednesday after Stephen Jackson nailed the decisive 3-pointer with one second remaining.

"Overall, throughout the course of the game, we let teams hang around and stay close," Davis said. "That's what we want to do on the road, hang around, stay close and give ourselves a chance. We have to start using our home court as an advantage. We need to decide to do that sooner than later."
