Hornets overcoming injuries

Jan 30, 2009 - 11:16 AM Golden State (14-32) at New Orleans (28-14) 9:30 p.m. EST

NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- The New Orleans Hornets are proving they can win without contributions from some of their stars.

The injury-plagued Hornets go for their third straight win on Friday when they host the Golden State Warriors.

Playing again without starting forward David West and center Tyson Chandler, who are out with back spasms and a sprained left ankle, respectively, New Orleans' reserves powered the team to a 94-81 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.

The Hornets' bench, led by third-string shooting guard Devin Brown, outscored Denver's reserves, 42-13, and Peja Stojakovic tied his season-high with his second consecutive 26-point performance.

After sitting out the last three games, Brown scored 18 points, including all three shots from 3-point range, helping overcome an off-night for superstar Chris Paul, who was limited to 12 points and 10 assists while wearing protective sleeves on his sore right elbow and strained right calf.

New Orleans hopes to get more of the same against the Warriors, who endured their third loss in four games during a 117-93 setback against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday.

On the road after going 4-3 in a two-week homestand, Golden State was led by Stephen Jackson's 25 points - including 14 in the first quarter - and by 21 from reserve Corey Maggette.
