Grizzlies hope to avoid 13th straight defeat

Feb 2, 2009 - 2:46 PM Memphis (11-35) at Washington (10-37), 7:00 p.m. EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The woeful Memphis Grizzlies hope to snap a 12-game losing streak when they visit the Eastern Conference-worst Washington Wizards on Monday.

Memphis has rarely been close in its defeats during the stretch, dropping 10 of the 12 games by double digits. The last six have all been by 10 or more points.

Rudy Gay scored 23 points and rookie O.J. Mayo had 21 in Memphis' latest loss, a 115-98 setback to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Washington snapped a five-game losing streak on Saturday, posting a 106-94 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Antawn Jamison had 25 points and 12 rebounds and Caron Butler chipped in 16, 13 and seven assists for the Wizards, who won for just the third time in 15 games.
