Jazz, Kirilenko limit Redd en route to win over Bucks

Dec 5, 2006 - 4:47 AM SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- By limiting Michael Redd's production, the Utah Jazz and Andrei Kirilenko knew they could put away the Milwaukee Bucks a lot earlier.

Carlos Boozer scored 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Mehmet Okur added 17 and 13 as the Jazz rolled to a 101-88 victory over the Bucks, who concluded a four-game road trip with a 2-2 record.

Kirilenko, who made all six shots, scored 14 points and Deron Williams finished with eight assists for Utah, which beat Milwaukee for the fifth straight time.

"I thought he played him (Redd) pretty well," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "Andrei was on him, he got up on him and ... Andrei's long enough."

On November 11 in Milwaukee, Redd netted a franchise-record 57 points, but the Jazz escaped with a 113-111 win thanks to a decisive layup by Matt Harpring with 1.8 seconds left.

"We reminded ourselves - just don't forget what happened out there [in Milwaukee]," Williams said. "We tried to put our foot on him (Redd) and not let him get back in the door."

Utah led, 57-46, at the break but Redd had 16 points. The Jazz and Kirilenko made some adjustments after halftime, limiting the left-handed sharpshooter to just three shots in the decisive third quarter.

"Those guys, you can't stop alone," Kirilenko said. "Probably it's lucky that he stopped making shots. ... Michael Redd in the first quarter, I even contested his shot three times right in his face, and he still kept scoring, kept making those shots. But in the second quarter we did a great job. We helped a little bit better on him, we doubled him and we tried to get the ball out of his hands. And you see the difference."

"Obviously he got off early in the first, but in the second and third quarter we kinda shut him down a little bit," Boozer said. "The whole team did a good job on him."

While Kirilenko shadowed Redd, the Jazz put together a 25-8 run over the first nine minutes of the frame for a commanding 82-54 advantage. Utah maintained a double-digit lead from thereon.

"It's a team game and no one can win a game by themselves," Redd said. "They (Jazz) did a great job of surrounding me."

Charlie Bell scored 23 points and Redd finished with 18 for the Bucks, who shot 38 percent (32-of-84) overall.

"I thought they did a good job," Milwaukee coach Terry Stotts said of Utah's defense against Redd. "Kirilenko was injured in the second half at our place. They had Andrei on him; Derek Fisher did a good job. They were physical and made it tough for him to get the ball where he wanted."
