Wizards, Timberwolves meet in lottery matchup

Mar 9, 2009 - 1:29 PM Washington (14-49) at Minnesota (18-44) 8:00 p.m. EST

MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- One losing streak will end Monday when the struggling Washington Wizards visit the reeling Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Wizards find themselves at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings and riding a six-game losing streak. Washington is one-half game ahead of Sacramento (13-49) for the worst record in the NBA.

Antawn Jamison had 24 points and 11 rebounds and Caron Butler added 20 and nine as the Wizards ran out of gas in a 119-103 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday.

Minnesota had been playing better basketball before a season-ending to Al Jefferson on February 8. Since Jefferson suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, the Timberwolves are just 1-11 and in the midst of a nine-game losing streak.

Ryan Gomes scored a season-high 28 points but Minnesota was edged by Portland, 95-93, on Saturday.

The Timberwolves are 2-17 in their last 19 games, allowing 100 points or more in 13 straight games before the loss to the Trail Blazers.
