NBA Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sunday (3/19)

Mar 19, 2023 - 1:22 PM

It’s another Sunday in the NBA. This week we have a full schedule of eight games. As the season begins to wind down there are plenty of opportunities to find good value in certain spots. Here are three bets I really like for this Sunday slate.

Season to Date: 23-19-2, 1.75 units

Denver Nuggets at Brooklyn Nets

The Nuggets have been on a slide lately having gone just 1-5 SU and ATS in their last six games. The main reason for this has been poor defensive play. Their overall season numbers have them sitting 19th in adjusted defensive efficiency but in recent weeks it’s been much worse. They’ve allowed an average of 118.0 ppg to opponents in this recent slide including a 122-120 loss to these Nets just last Sunday in Denver.

Brooklyn has been headed in the wrong direction as well. Recent results saw them give up 118+ to consecutive opponents before a low-scoring affair with Sacramento on Thursday. Brooklyn is a team made up of a lot of guys who just joined the roster and defense takes time to build a cohesive unit. With only a small handful of regular season games left, it’s unlikely they can shape into a top defensive unit.

Both of these teams have the offensive firepower to score and the defensive liability to give up a lot of points. I like this game to go over the total and am making it one of my best bets for Sunday.

Pick: 1.1u on total o228.5 (-110)

Toronto Raptors at Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks have really come on strong in the last part of the season and have taken control of the top spot in the Eastern Conference. A relatively healthy lineup is the main driver behind this and they should be favorites at home against a Toronto team that is fighting to stay alive in the play-in hunt. However, this line is too long and there is reason to back the Raptors.

Milwaukee is a better version of the team they’ve been most of the season, but Toronto is too. The Raptors are healthier now than they’ve been for most of the year and after struggling mightily in a recent western road trip, they returned home to two very impressive showings in blowout wins over the Nuggets and the Thunder. The offense could continue to stay hot if Bucks’ center Brook Lopez is expected back in the lineup but there’s a chance he isn’t 100%. That is a blow to Milwaukee’s stout defense and something Toronto could use to their advantage.

The biggest reason I like this play is that the Bucks, even with racking up wins, haven’t necessarily been blowing out the spread. They sit only 4-4-1 in the month of March and as impressive as they’ve looked, this number is just way too high for them to be hanging against a team who has something to fight for at this point of the season. Milwaukee likely wins this game, but it’ll be closer than the number suggests.

Pick: 1.1u on Raptors +9.5 (-110)

Los Angeles Clippers at Portland Trail Blazers

These are two teams that hung around the middle of the West logjam but in recent weeks have gone in two opposite directions. The Clippers have been making a strong push to climb up the Western Conference standings and position themselves for the playoffs. After a rough start to the Russell Westbrook era in Los Angeles, things have settled down and the Clippers have found themselves winners of four of their last five.

Portland has gone in the other direction. March has been a miserable month for the Blazers as they’ve fallen multiple games out of the play-in spots and may be looking ahead to next season. Their record would sure indicate that as they’ve gone 2-7 SU and 3-6 ATS. Perhaps this is a last-ditch effort to make that final run for the 10-seed but I think this is a spot they are more likely to pack it in.

Kawhi sat last night in the loss to the Magic but is expected in the lineup for this matchup with Portland. The Clippers need to keep winning if they want to host a first-round playoff series as they’re still within striking distance of the Phoenix. There is more than enough firepower and motivation to get this done. I love the Clippers as short favorites on the road Sunday.

Pick: 1.1u on Clippers -3.5 (-110)
