In a dramatic contest, Yao hit a fadeaway jumper with 28.7 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game, 89-89. However, the Lakers outlasted Houston in the two extra periods to send them to their third straight loss.

The 7-6 center collected 38 points, 15 rebounds and a career-high eight blocks. Rafer Alston had 19 points and 10 assists for the Rockets, who 47 percent (44-of-94) from the field.

The Clippers also have lost three in a row. Elton Brand had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Shaun Livingston contributed 16 points and 10 assists for Los Angeles, which fell to 1-8 on the road this season in a 109-99 loss at Portland on Friday.
