Illinois State gets past St. Bonaventure 80-77
Nov 30, 2009 - 12:48 AM NORMAL, Ill.(AP) -- Osiris Eldridge scored 28 points and Jackie Carmichael added his first career double-double as Illinois State beat St. Bonaventure 80-77 in the championship game of the Basketball Travelers Classic on Sunday.Eldridge made 10 of 16 shots from the floor, including six 3-pointers. Carmichael scored a career-high 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Redbirds (6-0) remained undefeated.
Chris Matthews hit eight 3-pointers and led the Bonnies (4-2) with 28 points. Jonathan Hall added 15 and Malcolm Eleby had 14.
After a bucket by Ogo Adegboye pulled St. Bonaventure to within 80-77 late, Lloyd Phillips missed two free throws with three seconds to go. However, he secured the win by intercepting the ensuing inbounds pass.
St. Bonaventure led 39-37 at half after taking an early 21-13 advantage.
