La Salle holds off George Washington 65-64

Jan 14, 2010 - 3:32 AM PHILADELPHIA(AP) -- Aaric Murray scored 21 points and La Salle defeated George Washington 65-64 on Wednesday night.

Yves Mekongo scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half and the Explorers (9-7, 2-1 Atlantic 10 Conference) outscored the Colonials (12-4, 2-1) 34-32 after halftime.

La Salle trailed 59-56 with 4:10 left before a 9-1 run. The Explorers led 65-60 on two free throws by Jerrell Williams with 1:14 remaining.

Aaron Ware hit two free throws to pull George Washington within 65-62 with 1:08 to go. Steve Weingarten then turned the ball over for La Salle, and Ware's layup brought the Colonials within one with 8 seconds left.

La Salle promptly turned the ball over again on a five-second violation. But George Washington couldn't convert as Travis King missed a 3 at the buzzer.

Damian Hollis had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Ware added 16 points for the Colonials.
