Colgate edges American 75-74 in double overtime

Feb 13, 2010 - 10:45 PM HAMILTON, N.Y.(AP) -- Ben Jonson had 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Kyle Roemer also scored 19 points as Colgate edged American University 75-74 in double overtime Saturday.

Jonson hit a jumper at the buzzer in the first overtime after Mitch Rolls' 3-pointer with 3.1 seconds left brought the Raiders (8-16, 4-6 Patriot League) within 68-66. Jonson also had the basket that tied the game at the end of regulation 56-56.

All of Colgate's points in the second overtime came on free throws. Two by Nick Pascale put Colgate ahead to stay, 74-72, with 1:09 left, and Rolls added one for a 75-72 lead.

The Eagles (7-18, 4-6) made it 75-74 when Nick Hendra made two of three free throws with 16 seconds left. They got the ball back after Roemer missed two free throws for Colgate, but Vlad Moldoveanu's shot rattled off the rim with 5 seconds left.

Moldoveanu led American with 30 points and 10 rebounds. Hendra added 14 points.
