Cincinnati beats DePaul 74-69

Feb 25, 2010 - 2:19 AM By JOE KAY AP Sports Writer

CINCINNATI(AP) -- Forward Yancy Gates, benched during his last game for shoddy defense, scored a career-high 23 points and Cincinnati extended DePaul's longest losing streak of the season by beating the Blue Demons 74-69 on Wednesday night.

Cincinnati (16-11, 7-8 Big East) had lost its last two games with Gates and freshman guard Lance Stephenson struggling. Stephenson had his first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bearcats won despite going 0 of 9 from behind the arc - the second time this season they failed to make a 3 - and 14 of 32 from the free-throw line.

Will Walker scored 24 points for DePaul (8-19, 1-14), which has lost nine in a row. The Blue Demons fell to 1-11 since Jerry Wainwright was fired on Jan. 11.
